Argentine Customs chief meets with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime

El The new Director General of Customs, Eduardo Mallea, met on Wednesday (29.05.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX) with Nicolás Benza, Southern Cone coordinator of the Global Container Control Program (CCP) of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), to articulate the work agenda, official sources reported. 

The meeting took place at the headquarters in Buenos Aires, where the Deputy Director General of Customs Control, Diego Figueroa, also participated.

"Mallea and Benza agreed on the importance of the CCP for Argentina and the region, and discussed future training activities to be developed in operational areas," said the note released today by Customs.

During the meeting, Mallea assured that one of the pillars of his management will be “Ensure compliance with the law through intelligent control, supported by modernization, efficiency and transparency".

According to the same source, Benza was “extremely satisfied” with the meeting. In his words: “We will work together to deepen collaboration and apply best practices to combat illicit trafficking.". 

This is a national and international initiative to prevent the trafficking of drugs and other illicit goods, as well as to facilitate legitimate trade and protect income at the border.

The Global Container Control Program aims to strengthen the capabilities of customs, police and other law enforcement authorities to combat illicit trafficking.

Argentina has been included in the program since the signing of a memorandum of understanding in 2016.
