The National Directorate of Industry authorized the import of 500 hybrid, electric and fuel cell vehicles to companies FCA, Ford, Mercedes Benz, Nissan, Renault, Toyota and Volkswagen, with an Extra-Zone Import Duty (DIE) of 5%, through the Provision 168/2021 published today (05.03.2021) in the Official Gazette.
The regulations state that "Decree 331 of May 2017 had established reduced rates of these duties, of 5%, 2% and 0% for the importation of certain hybrid, electric and fuel cell (hydrogen) automobiles, complete, both fully assembled (CBU) and semi-knocked down (SKD) and completely disassembled (CKD), respectively, for a period of 36 months and a maximum limit of 6.000 units."
Thus, at the beginning of November last year, the Government renewed until the beginning of next May the reduction, in some cases, and the elimination, in others, of tariffs through Decree 846/2020.
The regulation set the maximum limit of units that can actually be imported during the extension period of the measure at 1.000.
Furthermore, it established that “only terminal companies based and producing in the country may request the importation of vehicles under the provisions of this measure.”
On this occasion, the quota was distributed 500 units belonging to the second quarter, which runs from February to May.
The Industry approved the requests from FCA for 78 units of RAM hybrid vehicles; from Ford, which ordered 53 units of the Mondeo hybrid vehicle, and 32 of the Kuga; from Mercedes Benz, which did the same for 14 of the GLE 450 4Matic, 8 of the AMG GLE 53 4Matic; from Nissan, for 20 of the Leaf; and from Renault, for 25 of the Zoe and 7 of the Kangoo. Meanwhile, Toyota's orders for 158 units of the RAV4 hybrid were authorized; 40 of different models of the Lexus and 7 of the CH-R; and from Volkswagen, 57 of different models of the Audi.
