Trade with Brazil again posted a deficit in February

-

Bilateral trade between Argentina and Brazil was US$ 1656 million in the second month of the year, a 27,5% lower than the value obtained in the same period in 2023, when it was US$ 2283 million, according to a report by the Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services (CAC).

Likewise, the exchange improved by 5,9% compared to last January, due to a sharp increase in imports of 22,2% and despite a drop in exports of 9,9%.

Argentine sales to Brazil fell in February 2024 by 23,9% compared to February 2023 (the eleventh consecutive month of decline) totaling US$ 717 million, while imports from that destination were US$ 938 million and showed a year-on-year decrease of 30%. Thus, the trade balance for Argentina showed a deficit of US$ 221 million (the negative sign returned after two months of surplus).

“The year-on-year drop in Argentina's exports to Brazil recorded in February (23,9%) was mainly due to the Deregistration of motor vehicles for the transport of goods and special uses, passenger motor vehicles and crude oil or crude bituminous oils, while the year-on-year drop in Argentine imports (30%) was mainly explained by the drop in passenger motor vehicles, motor vehicle parts and accessories, and piston engines and their parts," the CAC detailed in its report.

On the other hand, Argentina ranked fourth among Brazil's largest suppliers, behind China and Hong Kong and Macao (US$ 4481 million), the United States (US$ 2787 million) and Germany (US$ 1002 million).

In turn, among the main buyers of Brazil, Argentina ranked third, behind China, Hong Kong and Macao (US$ 6907 million) and the United States (US$ 2649 million).
