The United States Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP) announced on Tuesday (26.09.2017) the start of construction in San Diego of eight prototypes of the wall, four of them made of concrete and four of "other materials", for the border with Mexico.
The eight structures, measuring 5.4 to 9.1 meters, began to be built and once completed they will be subjected to tests to determine if they meet the objective of President Donald Trump's administration of limiting illegal immigration.
“We are committed to protecting our border and that includes building border walls (…) Moving forward with the prototypes allows us to continue incorporating the necessary tools to secure the border" said Acting CBP Commissioner, Ronald Vitiello, in the statement.
CBP estimates that construction of the eight prototypes will be completed within the next 30 days.
