The Director General of Customs of El Salvador, José Benjamín Mayorga, made a visit on Thursday (31.08.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) to the postal warehouse in the cargo area of the Tocumen International Airport, the main one in Panama, within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between both customs administrations.
According to the Panamanian agency, the customs authority of El Salvador was received by his counterpart from Panama, Tayra Barsallo, for a demonstration of non-i inspectionsntrusive, which are performed with scanners in the Post and Telegraph Area of Panama (COTEL) and intrusive if necessary.
"In any case, when the scanner detects a suspicious package, the officers will proceed to verify it and take the necessary measures if the situation warrants it," the document states.
The agency also explains that these checks are carried out by officials of the entity, as well as the payment of taxes generated by the customs destination of the goods, which enter the country by mail.
Barsallo was accompanied on this tour by Yariela Melo, administrator of Customs for the Airport Zone, Diana Pinzón, head of the Container Technical Inspection Unit (UNITEC); César Lasso, deputy head of this unit and Darío Sandoval Shaik, advisor to the higher office.
The tour is part of a tour that Mayorga is making to the National Customs Authority of Panama, in line with the agreement between both customs agencies aimed at "Strengthen the fight against customs fraud and improve security in our port areas", the document says.
