Santa Fe will host the Mercosur summit

-

The city of Santa Fe will host the 54th MERCOSUR Summit of Presidents, which will bring together the heads of state that make up the regional bloc in the middle of this year, confirmed Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie to Mayor José Corral.

This is “a very important summit in the life of MERCOSUR”, since in Santa Fe "decisions will have to be made that have to do with the future of the four countries that make up the bloc, how we are going to connect with the world and how to make it more efficient," said Faurie.

The foreign minister said that in addition to the heads of state of the member countries of MERCOSUR, Santa Fe will receive the leaders of the states associated with the regional bloc.

The minister highlighted “the very proactive attitude” of Mayor Corral and the organization of Mercociudades in 2016, and told him that the city has “a great human capital, available infrastructure and quality public spaces.” "such as the Belgrano Station, the old Marconetti Mill, or the old silos in the port. Santa Fe has a great opportunity."

"Just as the G20 meeting served to make us proud of Buenos Aires as the capital of a country capable of organizing such an international event, with the presence of the most important leaders in the world, Santa Fe has the opportunity to show its best qualities at this Mercosur Summit," he added.

The last Mercosur Summit held in Argentina was in the city of Paraná, Entre Ríos, in December 2014.

In addition to President Mauricio Macri, the city of Santa Fe will also be attended by the presidents of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro; of Uruguay, Tabaré Vázquez; of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez; as well as representatives of the associated States.
