The fifth edition of the advanced course for the management of tax and customs administrations has concluded

-

The new edition of the Advanced Course on Tax and Customs Administration Management culminated with a face-to-face meeting of the April 24-28, in the city of Antigua Guatemala (Guatemala), according to the WCO.

The training event was attended by 24 technical officials from the agencies of countries in America (Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Peru) to deepen their knowledge in strategic and operational planning based on a compliance risk management methodology, as well as to analyze new current trends in taxation and foreign trade in a new social and digital context.

Tax and customs administrations are the driving force behind the modernization and financing of countries' public policies. For this reason, The Advanced Course in Tax and Customs Administration Management is a joint initiative between the International Monetary Fund (IMF) through its Technical Assistance Center for Central America, Panama and the Dominican Republic (CAPTAC-DR), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT), the Institute of Fiscal Studies of Spain (IEF), the National University of Distance Education (UNED) and the WCO through the Global Trade Facilitation Program (GTFP).

The fifth edition started on November 21, 2022, with an 8-week virtual phase, which concluded with face-to-face sessions in Antigua Guatemala, as stated at the beginning.

During the past year, the WCO also participated in the delivery of some sessions through a WCO Accredited Expert who facilitated the discussion on “International Customs Practices”, a topic that was developed in the “Tax Trends” module.

Such actions respond to the WCO's mission to improve the efficiency of other Members' customs administrations, thereby helping them to successfully contribute to national development objectives, in particular revenue collection, national security, trade facilitation, community protection and the collection of trade statistics.
