Taking into account the success of the programs implemented in Latin America and the Caribbean, in 2020 the regional office of Panama-based Crime Stoppers signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Security of the Province of Jujuy, Argentina, under the auspices of Senator Silvia Giacoppo, member of the Board of Directors of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament, PARLATINO.
In follow-up to that Memorandum in On Thursday (17.06.2021) the launch of Crime Stoppers Jujuy will take place which, as in Panama and the rest of the countries in the region where the program operates, will have as its objective Objective: to strengthen the actions carried out in the area of citizen security from the Government of the Province of Jujuy, focusing primarily on promoting the culture of responsible citizen reporting in an anonymous, safe and reliable manner.
The launch of Crime Stoppers in the province includes the opening of an office in the City of San Salvador de Jujuy that will act as a coordination office for the Northwest Argentine region (NOA) that borders Chile, Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay; in the latter, Crime Stoppers has an office that works with the Paraguayan authorities with whom they will be able to coordinate joint actions for greater effectiveness in the prevention and combating cross-border crimes.
This decision responds to the geopolitical location of this city that places it in the middle of routes and structures of transnational organized crime related to drug trafficking, human trafficking, terrorism and money laundering that benefit from local criminal structures and strengthen them.
Crime Stoppers thus confirms its commitment to strengthening the institutions responsible for preventing crime and the challenges of transnational organized crime that undermines the development of Latin America and the Caribbean.
As a result of the initiative, Jujuy is the first Argentine province to join Crime Stoppers, giving Jujuy residents the opportunity to share anonymous information with the authorities through www.tupista.org
Aduana News is the first Argentine customs newspaper to launch its digital version. With 20 years of experience, its publications and initiatives aim to provide the most relevant knowledge on customs issues in order to contribute to safe trade in the region.
