-

Chile and Bolivia successfully concluded last week (September 13 and 14) the XV Meeting of the Border and Integration Committee, which took place after six years in the Chilean city of Arica, according to information from both Foreign Ministries.

The delegations were headed by the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs of Chile, Gloria de la Fuente, and the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Integration of Bolivia, Benjamín Blanco. The organizers agreed that the event has constituted a substantial contribution to the joint work of the Customs authorities, Agricultural and Livestock Service, Carabineros, PDI and other national and regional representatives.

In a space of collaboration that strengthens mutual trust, the countries agreed a comprehensive work plan in the following areas: customs, integrated border controls, fight against smuggling, road and border infrastructure, migration, health, risks and disaster relief, tourism, police, and plant and animal health. This work plan will have a permanent monitoring mechanism through their respective foreign ministries.

On the other hand, within the framework it was agreed to reactivate the administrative commission and deepen the Economic Complementation Agreement (ACE 22). They also agreed to continue with the evaluation of the regulatory framework for the Sica Sica oil pipeline, for the benefit of both parties. They also agreed to evaluate the alternatives for improvement for the rail and air connectivity.

According to the text, the vice-ministers thanked the local authorities for the attention received and are confident that the work carried out, as well as the agreements reached, will directly benefit the border communities of both countries.Chilean Foreign Ministry) (Bolivian Foreign Ministry)
