Trade between Russia and several Latin American countries decreased by 5,8% in January and February 2019 compared to the same period in 2018, the Russian Federal Customs Service reported on Monday (8.4.2019).
Russia's trade with Mexico, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Cuba fell from $1.462,5 billion in the first two months of last year to $1.377,5 billion in the same two months of 2019.
The data does not include Russia's trade with Latin American partners such as Ecuador, Colombia, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Although the trend is downward, trade dynamics with countries for which data are available are very diverse, from growth exceeding 65% to falls below 20%.
Leading the growth is trade between Russia and Argentina, which increased by 65,66%, from $79,5 million in the first two months of 2018 to $131,7 million in 2019.
Trade with Mexico, meanwhile, also shows a positive dynamic, since it rose from 420,7 million dollars in 2018 to 440,3 million in 2019, which meant a modest increase of 4,65%, during the respective first two months of each year.
However, trade between Russia and Peru suffered a significant decline, falling from $66,7 million in January and February 2018 to $53,1 million in the first two months of 2019, a 20,4% drop.
A similar trend can be seen in trade between Russia and Chile, which plummeted by 22,8%, from $179,6 million in the first two months of 2018 to $138,5 million in the same period in 2019.
Trade between Brazil and Russia fell by 15%, from $675,5 million to $573,6 million in the same period in 2019.
Trade with Cuba, meanwhile, remained stable at $40,3 million, with no change.
