-

China's customs authority said on Sunday (21.06.2020) that it has suspended imports of products from poultry meat from a plant belonging to the American processor Tyson Inc. who was affected by the coronaviruss.

The General Administration of Customs said on its website that it decided to suspend the operation after the company confirmed a cluster of coronavirus cases at the plant, located in Springdale, Arkansas.

Tyson spokesman Gary Mickelson said the company was looking into the issue, adding that Tyson works closely with U.S. authorities to ensure its food is produced in compliance with government safety requirements.

"It is important to note that the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration all agree that there is no evidence to support food-associated transmission of Covid-19," she told Reuters in an email.

China also suspended the import of pork products from German processor Toennies last week. after a coronavirus outbreak was detected among hundreds of its employees.

The Asian country has strengthened its supervision over imported foods after a new outbreak of coronavirus cases was linked to a wholesale market in the capital just over a week ago.
