Rapiscan Eagle M6 Scanner Truck

This was reported by the Regional Director of the Iquique Customs, Dennys Beltrand, on the occasion of his visit to the mayor of Tarapacá, Miguel Angel Quezada; and to the governor of Tamarugal, Luis Tobar, in the border complex of Colchane, where They confirmed the work of the Rapiscan Eagle M6 scanner truck in controls upon entry and exit of cargo.

Fast and safe inspections

Beltrand explained that in virtue of the role of preventing any type of smuggling and providing security to the international logistics chain, Customs works based on risk analysis and intensive use of non-invasive technology, which allows for faster and safer inspections.

“In this context, our region has two trucks that rotate in outposts, ports, roads and free zones. This year we created a special plan that has allowed us to increase the use of trucks by 148%, in addition to the equipment for luggage and other portable use," said Beltrand.

In turn, Mayor Miguel Angel Quezada He valued the impact that this type of technology has in the fight against smuggling and drug trafficking.“There is a government commitment and combined strategies to reduce crime and provide security to the population. Under this dynamic, the work carried out by Customs is key in a region like ours, where there are large volumes of cargo and a large international trade.”

Features of the Rapiscan truck

Quezada and Governor Tobar learned about the capabilities of the Rapiscan truck, which can operate as a fixed or mobile vehicle on any type of load. The vehicle has an articulated arm and a powerful generator that allows it to move steel and all types of material, while maintaining strict safety and protection standards for its operators or third parties. “Its mobility is very useful, especially for a region and a province as large as ours,” added Governor Tobar.

Truck technology in data

Beltrand pointed out that this year truck technology has made it possible to detect 199 kilos 628 grams of cocaine, 119 kilos 476 grams of cocaine paste and 63 kilos 753 grams of marijuana, which meant avoiding the sale of $6.103 million pesos worth of drugs on the illicit market.

Added to this are other contrabands, such as all those registered in containers or vehicles that hide cigarettes or counterfeit shoes and clothing.

Regarding the work in the commune of Colchane, the Regional Director pointed out that the displacement and operation require a considerable logistical effort due to the distance and height, “but the growth and flow in that pass makes the use of this technology necessary. In fact, there is a constant growth of around 4% in the flow of cargo, passengers and vehicles.”
