Chile and Brazil begin negotiations for a free trade agreement

The city of Brasilia is hosting the first round of negotiations for a free trade agreement between Brazil and Chile from Wednesday to Friday (June 6-8, 2018).

According to the Chilean Government's statement, the meeting plans to include new topics relevant to international trade. This, will strengthen the Economic Complementation Agreement (ACE 3)5), in force since October 1, 1996, and which has one hundred percent of free trade.

The Chilean delegation is headed by the director of Bilateral Economic Affairs of Direcon, Felipe Lopeandía, and in Brazil, by the director of the Department of Regional Economic Integration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Michel Arlasian.

The new agreement will include chapters that seek to promote both the flow of goods and services, e-commerce and facilitation. It will also incorporate inclusive matters, such as labour, environmental, trade and gender issues, SMEs, among others.
