A new blow to drug trafficking was dealt during the early hours of this morning The inspection teams of the National Customs Service of Chile at the Quillagua outpost (north). On this occasion they intercepted a vegetable truck with 160 kilos of marijuana that were intended to be taken to Antofagasta.
El Regional Director of the Iquique Customs, Cristian Molina Silva, highlighted the intervention "because it is the result of the professionalism and commitment of our customs officers, who maintain strict control at the Quillagua outpost 24 hours a day to prevent the smuggling of illicit goods. Quillagua is in the middle of the desert and with this case we have added up to 676 kilos of drugs intercepted and 16 detained in just one week.".
Molina Silva pointed out that in this case lThe drug traffickers hid 50 packages with a total of 160 kilos of marijuana inside 15 banana boxes, which were mixed among the 20 thousand kilos of fruits and vegetables which was transporting a truck from Arica to Antofagasta.

“Concealment methods are constantly changing and that is why our inspection teams are constantly training and receiving feedback, working with risk profiles, non-invasive technology and detector dogs.”
The truck was carrying the Chilean driver and a Peruvian and a Bolivian who indicated that they were merchants and owners of the cargo.
All of them were brought before the courts, along with the drugs and evidence.
