A truck full of counterfeit sneakers Nike Air Jordan and Reebok Classic Leather inspectors from the National Customs Service in the Free Trade Zone of Iquique seized the goods. The goods are of Chinese origin and were intended to be transported to Santiago for sale.
El Regional Director of the Iquique Customs, Cristian Molina Silva, explained that based on the data analysis and risk profiling work carried out by the inspectors of the Zona Franca's appraisal unit, a load that was trying to leave the walled enclosure of Zofri bound for the Metropolitan Region was intercepted.
“The auditors made a documentary analysis and subjected the goods to a physical inspection. Upon inspection, it was found that they were counterfeit shoes, since they imitated models and designs of the Nike and Reebok brands," said the manager.

The truck was carrying 1.903 boxes containing a total of 15 thousand 224 pairs of sneakers that imitate the Nike Air Jordan 4, Nike Air Jordan 1 and Reebok Classic Leather models. As a result, an infringement of Laws 17.336 and 19.039 on intellectual and industrial property was established, for which reason the shipment was suspended and the owners of the respective brands were notified of the situation.
The customs value of the goods is USD 36.345,32 and its commercial value reaches USD 1.979.484,53. In this regard, Molina said: “The smugglers are changing their modus operandi and in this case they were copies of the designs and they came grouped by dozens, so we estimate that in Santiago they glued or sewed the logos to complete the deception.” Regarding this, the official stated that “it is an unfair trade that damages the trust of consumers.”
