Argentine customs officers trained on the application of the WCO Data Model

Argentine customs officials received training from the World Customs Organization (WCO) on the application of the Data Model, a universal language for the exchange of cross-border data necessary for the release and clearance of merchandise, the Organization reported on Friday (16.08.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX).

Specifically, the The “OMA Data Model” workshop was held in the City of Buenos Aires, from August 5 to 9, 2024, thanks to the financial support of the Customs Cooperation Fund (CCF) of China.

The training was attended by: cross-border regulatory agencies; namely: Customs officials, the VUCEA (Argentine Single Window) Implementing Unit and government agencies associated with the adoption and implementation of the WCO Data Model.

The WCO said the workshop focused on enabling the administration to develop a harmonized national data catalogue that is fully aligned with the Data Model as an international standard, resulting in cost and time savings for the
public administrations and the trade sector.

To this end, the “WCO Data Model” workshop began with the words of opening representatives of the General Directorate of Customs of Argentina and the experts of the WCO, who welcomed the participants and described the objectives of the workshop. The Argentine customs authorities highlighted its importance in deepening the knowledge of the technical experts of the different agencies in the framework of the development of the Single Window.

The issues were addressed technical aspects of the WCO Data Model, including its libraries, information packages and class levels. Participants also learned how to use the application to facilitate the implementation process.

In this sense, the workshop included practical exercises focused on Single Window data harmonization and business process management, in particular for processes related to Licences, Permits, Certificates and Others (LPCO). Specialized sessions included case studies on VUCEA, cross-border e-commerce, CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) and e-Phyto (“electronic phytosanitary certified). 

Finally, the workshop included a summary of key points and closing remarks.
