The beginning of 2025 gives us the perfect opportunity to anticipate and be aware of the events that will mark the course of the customs sector this year. From our newspaper, we have prepared a calendar with the relevant dates and events that will have an impact at a global, regional and local level.

This year promises significant milestones that could transform customs actions, redefining priorities and facing challenges in an increasingly dynamic and globalized context.

JANUARY AND FEBRUARY

🟦January 15. From global to local, the first event of the year is held by the World Customs Organization (WCO): the second edition of the Symposium on counterfeiting in electronic commerce. This meeting, with a hybrid format (in person in Brussels and online), will address in English and French the challenges related to counterfeiting and its impact on international trade. 🟦January 26. At the international level, a date that deserves to be highlighted is the International Customs Day. This year, the motto chosen by the OMA is: “Customs fulfills its commitment to efficiency, security and prosperity”. A day to pay attention and reflect on the crucial role that customs play in promoting legitimate and efficient trade.

🟦 February 3 and 4. In this context, it will be key to closely monitor the Global Forum on Interconnectivity at the Source The forum will be held in person at the World Customs Organization (WCO) headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. MARCH-APRIL-MAY

🟦17 al 20 MarchFrom a regional perspective, for the Americas and the Caribbean, it will be essential to pay attention to the OAS International Seminar, which will take place in São Paulo, Brazil. This event, organized by the Federal Revenue Service and Procomex, with the support of multiple organizations, will bring together leading experts and representatives of the sector. DATE TO BE DEFINED: From a national perspective, the tribute that the University of Buenos Aires will organize on the occasion of the Dr. Juan Sortheix's birthday, a prominent Argentine considered the "father" of the Harmonized System. He was also the driving force behind the Special Customs Area Law and a key architect in the development of the Customs Code.

JUNE – JULY

🟦1 June. An important date to remember and celebrate is the Customs and Customs Worker Day in Argentina.

🟦23 24 and June. These days, the World Customs Organization (WCO) plans to carry out the 92nd session of the Political Commission, a subsidiary body of the Council responsible for presenting recommendations and the WCO strategic plan. The meeting will be held in Brussels, Belgium.

🟦25 of June. Following the above-mentioned meeting, the following will be held: Dialogue between the WCO Policy Commission and the Private Sector Advisory Group, also in Brussels, Belgium.

🟦June 26-28. The following will then be carried out: 145th and 146th sessions of the Council of the World Customs Organization, the main decision-making body of this institution, in Brussels, Belgium.

DATE TO BE DEFINED. An important date to schedule in June is the tribute that will be held at the University of Buenos Aires In Memory by Dr. Juan Sortheix, prominent Argentine considered the "father" of the Harmonized System, promoter and developer of the Customs Code, and creator of the Special Customs Area Law.

AUGUST

🟦14 for August. In Argentina, it will be relevant to remember the Export Day, commemorating the first shipment of Argentine wheat that left for abroad in 1926. This moment marked the beginning of a new stage in the country's foreign trade and underlines the importance of the export sector in Argentina's economic development.

🟦August 16th, XNUMX. Continuing with the context of export, the Customs Broker's Day In Argentina it is also celebrated, highlighting the fundamental work of foreign trade professionals. 

DATE TO BE DEFINED. Within this framework, the following activities will be carried out: International Conference on Customs Law, organized by the Argentine Association of Fiscal Studies. This event will bring together experts, professionals and authorities in the customs and tax field, with the aim of discussing current challenges, best practices and regulations that impact international trade and customs operations in the country and the region.

SEPTEMBER

🟦3 to September 5. This month begins with the celebration of the XVII World Meeting on Customs Law in Porto, Portugal, under the motto “Weaving ties of Customs Law across all regions of the world”. The highly anticipated event, organised by the International Academy of Customs Law, brings together experts and practitioners from around the world to discuss the advances and challenges of the sector. OCTOBER 

DATE TO BE DEFINED. In this area of ​​intense activity, the XI Customs Law Conference, an event organized by the Customs Law Commission of the Center for Studies in Financial Law and Tax Law of the Faculty of Law of the University of Buenos Aires. In its previous editions, the event brought together more than a thousand participants, both from Argentina and abroad, consolidating itself as an essential space for debate and updating on customs matters.

NOVEMBER

🟦November 27th. Within these mentions, it is relevant to highlight the commemoration of the International Customs Broker DayThis date highlights the fundamental work of ASAPRA and customs brokers for legitimate international trade.
