Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero received this Thursday (14.10.2021/XNUMX/XNUMX) his counterpart from Paraguay, Euclides Acevedo Candia, with whom he analyzed the bilateral agenda and agreed on "the need to strengthen Mercosur" Emphasizing the task that the neighboring country will carry out in the pro tempore presidency of the regional bloc, it was officially reported.

The Chancellors "They agreed that the review of the Common External Tariff (CET) is a central element for the updating of the bloc, taking into account the requirements and needs of the Member States, based on consensus, in accordance with the letter and spirit of the founding texts of Mercosur.", the Foreign Ministry statement added.

«In the same way, they highlighted that Mercosur is the platform for the internationalization of both countries, through trade agreements, with the presence of all the States Parties of the bloc.", said the ministry headed by Cafiero.

The ministers resolved the opening, in the coming days, of three border crossings: Formosa, Misiones and Corrientes. It will be done "in a progressive manner, respecting health regulations and highlighting joint work for the habilitation, through safe health corridors," it was explained.

Cafiero and Acevedo Candia also agreed that "the implementation of the plan should be carried out"a joint effort against organized crime and drug trafficking," and in this sense "they agreed to deepen cooperation for the exchange of technology and experiences that reinforce the shared security agenda."

They also "claimed the defence of Human Rights and in this context agreed to work on the case of the girls killed in the town of Yby Yaú." This is the case of two Argentine teenagers killed in an operation by the Paraguayan armed forces against guerrilla groups and buried as unidentified.

"In this regard, they agreed to move towards the formation of an International Rapporteur Commission made up of forensic scientists from Portugal, Spain, Paraguay and the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (EAAF), respecting Paraguay's jurisdictional sovereignty," the Foreign Ministry explained in the statement.

In addition, the ministers "committed to the prompt completion of the meeting of the Argentina-Paraguay Bilateral Trade Monitoring Commission, in order to advance the bilateral economic and commercial agenda and promote actions that favor trade and investments."

And they "analyzed the Project to strengthen connectivity between ARSAT and COPACO, to achieve an interconnection of the fiber optic networks of each country to the points where the international Internet providers are located."
