Brazil reduces import tariffs by 10%

-

Through Resolution 269 of the so-called Executive Management Committee of the Chamber of Foreign Trade (Camex), the Brazilian government announced this Friday (05.11.2021) the reduction of the 10% on import tariffs on approximately 87% of goods and services imported by the country. The measure is valid until the 31 of December of 2022.

Products that are treated differently due to Mercosur, such as the automotive, sugar and alcohol segments, were excluded.

In a joint statement, the Ministries of Economy and Foreign Affairs stated that the measure “is justified by the emergency situation generated by the Covid-19 pandemic and by the need to have, immediately, an instrument that can contribute to alleviating its negative effects on the life and health of the Brazilian population.”

The text from Itamaraty and the Ministry of Economy clarifies the exceptional and temporary nature of the Resolution, while reaffirming its commitment to Mercosur.
