Brazilian President Michel Temer promised his Uruguayan counterpart Tabaré Vázquez on Friday (13.10.2017) that he would not block the entry of Uruguayan dairy products, as announced by the country's Minister of Agriculture, Blairo Maggi.
"Temer contacted Vázquez by telephone and informed him that he had been in contact with his foreign minister, Aloísio Nunes Ferreira, and with his minister of agriculture, Blairo Maggi, to resolve the dispute," says a statement. Note from the Uruguayan presidency published on Friday.
"TraDuring these negotiations, Temer informed Vázquez of his personal commitment that there would be no problems with the entry of Uruguayan dairy products into Brazil.l", he adds.
He also announces that the Next Monday a Brazilian technical delegation will travel to discuss with his peers from the Ministry of Livestock of Uruguay.
The State Secretariat headed by Maggi announced this week that this market would be closed to Uruguayan dairy products until Uruguay could justify that it did not "triangulate" milk by importing and then exporting it within Mercosur, a version categorically denied by Montevideo.
Brazil is the main market for Uruguayan dairy products, accounting for more than 60% of purchases.
Between January and August, Uruguay exported dairy products worth US$351 million, almost 7% of the country's total shipments.
