Money laundering reached a final figure of US$116.800 M

-

The Minister of Finance, Nicolás Dujovne, announced this Tuesday (04.04.2017) that money laundering reached a total of 116.800 billion dollars.

In a press conference given together with the head of the AFIP, Alberto Abad, the Minister of Finance, Nicolás Dujovne said that the importance of the amount "is a sign of confidence in the country."

This plan was launched in August last year, and until the end of 2016, those interested could declare their assets abroad by paying only 10 percent of the declared amount. After that date and until the end of March, they had to pay 15 percent.

In the case of “laundering” the properties, the rate was 5 percent of the market value, and although the payment and registration deadline was last Friday, March 31, those interested will have until April 17 to complete the required information.

This process took place within the framework of a greater exchange of tax information between a significant number of countries, in order to prevent “black” money from being used in criminal operations related to terrorism or drug trafficking..

The first two stages of the program, which concluded at the end of last year, left a balance of 97.842 billion dollars laundered, which allowed the treasury to receive 106.000 billion pesos from the collection and transfer of the special tax.

In addition, 112.000 new bank accounts were opened with deposits of 7.500 billion dollars, new local investments of 1.000 billion dollars were recorded in the cash disclosed and the new tax base for Personal Property abroad increased to 110.527 billion dollars, which represented an increase of 83.724 billion dollars based on the data prior to the money laundering.
