Argentina and Mexico renewed on Friday (18.03.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) the automotive agreement, within the framework of an annual quota scheme and, temporarily, also of beans Argentines to Mexico.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among the main traded points The renewal is highlighted by three years -from March 19, 2022 to March 18, 2025- of the quota for the reciprocal import of light vehicles with a zero percent tariff.
It was also established that the amount of the quota will be the current amount of 773.125.578 dollars and will remain fixed throughout the period.
Both countries also agreed to negotiate, during the three years of validity of these concessions, a comprehensive review of Appendix I of the Economic Complementation Agreement 55 (ACE 55), in order to “address pending issues and strengthen the balanced development of the automotive industries.
Additionally, Mexico granted Argentina "an exclusive quota with zero percent tariff and without prior import permission, for 50.000 tons of beans during 2022, 2023 and 2024, including flexible deadlines, in response to the request of Argentine exporters," it was detailed.
In parallel, over the next three years, the nations committed to broadening and deepening the ACE 6, focusing initially on the trade of goods and later on other disciplines, such as Services or Government Procurement.
Regarding ACE 6, Argentina has a great interest in incorporating or deepening preferences for wines, dairy products, poultry meat, garlic, vegetables, fresh fruit and preparations, peanuts, chocolates, sunflower oil, steel products and chemicals, among others.
"The achievement is part of the deepening of the Strategic Partnership between Argentina and Mexico agreed upon by Presidents Alberto Fernández and Manuel López Obrador, in the Declaration of Presidents signed in February 2021," the Foreign Ministry concluded.
The bilateral meeting was chaired by the Secretary of International Economic Relations, Cecilia Todesca Bocco, and the Undersecretary of Foreign Trade of Mexico, Luz María De la Mora Sánchez, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Also present were the Argentine ambassador to Mexico, Carlos Tomada, and the Undersecretary of Mercosur and International Economic Negotiations, Rossana Surballe.
