Argentina and Chile held a binational meeting to strengthen their action on borders

With the aim of continuing to improve the health status in border areas, the National Service for Agri-Food Health and Quality (SENSAS) reported that it participated in the XXII Plenary Meeting of the Atacalar Integration CommitteeThe event between Argentina and Chile sought to coordinate actions to benefit both regional economies.

To attack is an instance of binational integration which brings together the provinces of La Rioja, Tucumán, Catamarca, Santiago del Estero, Santa Fe, Córdoba, Entre Ríos and the Chilean region of Atacama, made up of the provinces of Chañaral, Copiapó and Huasco.

On this occasion, the meeting took place on last 11th and 12th of May, in the city of La Rioja, and was attended by representatives from each of the provinces, the ambassadors of Chile and Argentina, and national organizations, such as Senasa, who participated in the different subcommittees.

The meeting was also attended by national authorities such as Eduardo de Pedro, Minister of the Interior of the Nation, and Juan Manzur, Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Nation.

During the day, Agents and coordinators from the Cuyo Regional Center and NOA Sur of Senasa were part of the technical table of “Border Facilitation”, where they formed the phytosanitary subcommittee together with the Ministry of Productive Development of Tucumán, the Ministry of Security of Catamarca, the National Gendarmerie, the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) of Chile and the Carabineros.

The zoophytosanitary entity stressed the importance of Coordinate actions between the institutions of each country to guarantee the safety and health of food and products that transit the borders of both countries, in order to prevent the spread of plant pests and zoonotic diseases.

“Senasa's participation in these events is very important, not only by taking care of Argentines' tables, but also by helping to increase agricultural and livestock production. We are very pleased with the work they are doing in our province and throughout the region,” said Ricardo Quintela, governor of La Rioja and host of the binational meeting.

For his part, Juan Manzur pointed out that, "it was a meeting with a lot of presence, with provincial and national authorities, with the support of strategic organizations. We know the enormous work that Senasa has been doing throughout the country, it is an institution that we value very much. In each meeting, its entire technical team is there to support us."

“All the organizations present at the table committed to continue with our tasks and improve them even further. At Senasa, we believe it is essential to strengthen the activity at border crossings and to advise people who cross the borders, providing them with information,” said Valeria Vigliani, coordinator of Food Safety and Quality at Senasa’s Cuyo Regional Center.
