The first stage of the “Pilot Plan for Electronic Traceability in Fishing”; which involved five shrimp processing establishments, who voluntarily agreed to provide information on their traceability systems to evaluate the starting point for the implementation of an official comprehensive traceability system.

“The necessary adjustments were monitored in the Electronic Certification Management System (SIG-Cer) of Senasa in order to streamline the use of this computer tool and thus adapt it to the needs of the local fishing sector, aiming for the results collected by this System to be useful and shared with the private sector," explained the director of Safety of Fishing and Aquaculture Products, Fabián Ballesteros.

What electronic certification provides

This electronic health certification provides operational, statistical and product traceability data, of great value to official control bodies, the private sector and consumers, since they can know the origin and data on the industrialization and marketing of the food they consume.

The objective of Senasa is to develop a Official traceability system in fishing and aquaculture that integrates, through traceability, the entire production chain from the processing establishment or farm to the consumer; providing visibility, transparency, guarantee of origin and complying with international requirements.
