In order to facilitate and strengthen the logistics chain from its beginning to its conclusion, it is necessary for customs to collaborate at the operational level. In this framework, the Tax Administration Service of Guatemala (SAT-G) reported that they have completed the joint validations of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Program with the Customs of Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador and Uruguay.
Such validation process, carried out November 22rd – 26th last, verified the standards related to the legal, tax and customs framework, as well as those related to security to be certified as AEO.
In this regard, it should be noted that in terms of control, the AEO Program imposes a different treatment on importers and regular exporters who have obtained a certification derived from their reliable conduct before Customs and from the evaluation of the risks involved.
In this context, SAT-G explained that “the compatibility of the OAS Programs will allow us to move forward in the future towards the signing of a regional Mutual Recognition Agreement for OAS Programs in the Americas and another Binational Mutual Recognition Agreement with Ecuador.”
Regarding the initiative, he also highlighted "the commitment of Guatemala and the Americas region" to continue strengthening the application of minimum and uniform international standards necessary for facilitating and securing the logistics chain.
