Argentina and Chile are advancing in procedures aimed at simplifying processes for the transit of goods, within the framework of the reformulation of the Agreement for the transit of forestry and agricultural products in Patagonia, 1993.
Authorities from the National Service for Agri-Food Health and Quality (Senasa) and the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) of Chile held a meeting on Wednesday (3.10.2018) at the Paso de Integración Austral (Santa Cruz), to unify criteria according to regulations, exchange information and experiences on health programs implemented on both sides of the border in the Patagonian region such as brucellosis and tuberculosis, maedi visna, ectoparasitosis, among others.
Advances
Officials made progress in simplifying the transit of pets (including non-traditional), the use of DT-e as the only health protection for animals, as well as for Leather, wool and reproductive material transiting to and from Tierra del Fuego, agreeing to work in 2018 on the implementation of documentation equivalent to the Chilean one for such merchandise.
During the meeting, improvements in exchange procedures and common interest in animal health, plant protection, food safety and borders were highlighted, according to information from Senasa.
About the Southern Integration Pass
The Paso Integración Austral is a border crossing between Argentina and Chile located in the southern tip of both countries.
On the Chilean side, the nearest city is Punta Arenas (Magallanes Region) and on the Argentine side, Rio Gallegos (province of Santa Cruz).
This is an important crossing point due to the flow of vehicles and people that pass through it all year round.
