Organized crime: Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay strengthen their commitment to fight it

The governments of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay on Tuesday (04.06.2019/XNUMX/XNUMX) made a renewed commitment to tripartite cooperation to fight organized crime in the region more effectively, during a meeting in the Paraguayan city of Pedro Juan Caballero, headed by the president of that country, Mario Abdo Benítez. 

Paraguayan President and Argentine Security Minister Patricia Bullrich visited a marijuana production and storage center on Tuesday, which was detected as part of “Operation New Alliance XIX” in which security forces from Brazil and Paraguay are participating.

On the occasion, the president stated that Paraguay has made progress "like never before" in its history in terms of confiscation, generating an impact on the assets of organized crime of more than 150 million dollars in these first eight months of Government.

"It is the first time in the history of our country that the Paraguayan State has taken over the assets of organized crime, a ranch in the name of the State and four others that are being administered by the National Secretariat of Seized and Confiscated Assets (Senabico).”, Anadio.

He mentioned that the assets will allow strengthening the financial structure to continue fighting this scourge for the benefit of citizens and the security system.

The head of state also stressed that progress is being made in cooperation between countries in the region, but acknowledged that this is a daily struggle that requires permanent joint actions with neighboring countries..

"HToday we came to strengthen all our units, we need to strengthen the work and cooperation of the different institutions, since this is a process that must culminate in convictions against organized crime for the State to function."He said.

The president praised the will of the security forces, who despite the limitations work and obtain auspicious results.We have the same operational capacity as 10 years ago, but the results are very different.”, he stressed.

On this point, he announced that on July 1, the date on which he must present his report to Congress, he will request greater resources to improve operational capacity in the framework of the fight against organized crime.We are going to invest and we need the support of the citizens and Congress to have budgetary predictability”, Agregó.

He also pointed out that the Executive is working on alternative crops with credit assistance, a state technique that prevents families from falling into illegal activities, forced by the lack of opportunities.

Within the framework of cooperation between other countries, a new version of the “New Alliance” operation, implemented by Paraguay and Brazil, was launched yesterday, and has sparked Argentina's interest in joining these efforts to combat transnational organized crime.

To implement this new phase, the Minister of this institution, Arnaldo Guizzio, and the Brazilian Minister of Justice, Sérgio Moro, met at the regional office of Senad, located in Pedro Juan Caballero.
