The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), which includes the United States, China, Chile, Peru, Indonesia and 16 other countries, released this Tuesday (14.06.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) a new report entitled “Policy Recommendations: Digital Permits and E-Government Measures to Advance Post-COVID-19 Economic Recovery”.

Focusing on the way out of the crisis of the century, the document seeks to shed light on the digital government agenda of APEC countries, according to the note signed by Ekapong Rimcharone.

El APEC Digital Economy Steering Group He explained that the report offers suggestions for implementing the best practices in promoting the digitalization of licensing and permit granting processes.

In this regard, it includes policy recommendations, as well as case studies of APEC economies (Chile, Taiwan, among others) at various stages of development, which provide different perspectives of municipalities and national governments that are implementing digital licensing and permitting initiatives.

It is precisely because recommendations: 1) Define and develop criteria for “holistic” digital licensing; 2) Demonstrate political will and leadership to digitalize licensing and permitting processes; 3) Promote an enabling regulatory and policy environment; 4) Educate public officials and build capacity among stakeholders; 5) Develop a regional certification model to assist implementation.

APEC noted that implementing the key policy recommendations “will involve striking a balance between protecting business and investor data, facilitating data flows across jurisdictions, instituting a robust digital infrastructure, and working closely with the private sector and international organizations.”
