In Provision 160/2024, the Federal Public Revenue Administration (AFIP) has made changes to the Customs Process Reengineering Department of the General Customs Directorate, in line with its strategy of modernizing and optimizing customs processes.
The regulations, published today (18.09.2024) in the Official Gazette, formalize the termination of the functions of engineer Maximiliano Miguel Luengo, who until now served as Director of the aforementioned Directorate. In his replacement, the architect has been appointed Jorge Horacio Menem, who previously held the position of head of the Department of New Technologies and Special Customs Projects.
In this way, Menem will now lead the Customs Process Reengineering Directorate, a decisive area for the implementation of technological innovations in customs management.
According to the explanation, the measure is part of the powers of internal organization and restructuring that AFIP has, in accordance with the legal framework established by Decree No. 618/97 and its amendments, which regulates the function of the body in charge of managing the tax, fiscal and customs policies of the National State. In addition, it is highlighted that these decisions respect the rights to job stability of permanent employees, in accordance with current collective bargaining agreements.
Menem's appointment follows AFIP's objective of optimizing procedures and ensuring more efficient and modern management.
As indicated, the Federal Public Revenue Administration is the body responsible for implementing fiscal, tax and customs policies in Argentina; it was created in 1996 from the merger of the General Tax Directorate and the National Customs Administration through Decree 1156/96, which granted it the status of an autonomous entity within the scope of the Ministry of Economy.
