Mexican Customs and the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen bilateral cooperation focusing on: sharing intelligence, joint inspections and security tactics, reported this Wednesday (23.03.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) of Mexico.

"The head of the Mexican National Customs Agency (ANAM), Horacio Duarte Olivares, and Christopher Magnus, commissioner of the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), signed a memorandum of understanding," the statement said.

This is to strengthen "bilateral cooperation focusing on four common factors: security, trade facilitation, modernization of border point infrastructure and cooperation with regional partners," he added.

The coordinated work "will allow for increased surveillance and deterring smuggling, customs and commercial fraud, and inhibiting the trafficking of illicit goods."

It also aims to "facilitate legal trade" with modern customs processes on both sides of the border.

The meeting also addressed the exchange of actions to improve the effectiveness of review processes in the selection of targets and the strengthening of customs laws to protect foreign trade from criminal threats.

The memorandum proposes working on topics such as intelligence in air waybill information in order to share air cargo data and identify potential risks.

It also seeks to promote greater control and security in the entry of goods by train and to share secure processes and procedures in seaports.

Finally, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (T-MEC) will be monitored in terms of implementation and compliance with customs legislation.
