The Customs of the Americas and the Caribbean received this Monday (03.10.2022) the approval of the Regional Strategic Plan 2022-2024, an instrument that aims to promote the progressive modernization of administrations to strengthen the competitiveness of countries and the security of borders.
The session was chaired by the head of the Regional Vice-Presidency of the World Customs Organization (WCO) for the Americas and the Caribbean, Marilú Aybar of SUNAT of Peru, and was attended by the Secretary General of the WCO, Kunio Mikuriya, and the Deputy Secretary General, Ricardo Treviño Chapa. Approximately 25 Customs directors attended the meeting, which was held virtually.
In their comments, the WCO authorities congratulated the Customs of the Americas and the Caribbean for such an important initiative, recognizing their “unit” as a region.
Meanwhile, Marylú Aybar pointed out that “The regional plan for the Americas and the Caribbean is aligned with the WCO Strategic Plan”. And he stressed that “it includes its main objectives, such as Trade Facilitation, Revenue Collection, Protection of Society and Organizational Development.”
Such convergence in the drafting of the document and the participation of Members show that the WCO shares a single vision and is moving towards achieving the same objectives.
