Chilean and Peruvian Customs met to strengthen joint work

On Tuesday, November 23, the Chilean Customs Service announced that a meeting was held between the National Director of Customs, José Ignacio Palma, and his Peruvian counterpart, Marilú Llerena, in order to develop better strategies to strengthen joint work and address issues related to customs.

The statement also noted that the important meeting, held online, “aimed at analyzing various issues focused on strengthening bilateral work between both institutions, which were altered by the health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in the world.”

The Customs Service assured that “A series of agreements were adopted related to progress on commitments made in previous bilateral instances, seeking to improve customs control of goods that pass daily through Chacalluta in Chile and Santa Rosa, in Peru.".

"Both authorities expressed the great importance for customs to maintain a close and fluid dialogue on issues of mutual interest, since this will result in better performance by our Services and in the fulfillment of our functions," the statement said.

The meeting was also attended on behalf of the Service by the Regional Director of Customs in Arica, Fernando Rousseau Amigo; the Secretary General of Customs (S), Patricia Chamorro Figueroa; the Head of Inspection of the Regional Directorate of Customs in Arica, James Alarcón Contreras; the Deputy Director (S) of Inspection, Ana Karina Ochoa Albornoz; and the Head (S) of the Department of International Affairs, Andrea Ortiz Venegas.
