Customs administrations from 21 countries awarded the Head of the Technical Inspection Unit of Containers of the National Administration of Panama Customs, Diana Pinzon, like "civil servant of the year".
The distinction was awarded this Friday (06.05.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) within the framework of the XLII Meeting of National Directors of Customs of Latin America, Spain and Portugal (COMALEP), Panama Customs reported.
COMALEP, the forum that organized the award, granted the distinction based on the applications sent by the customs administrations of the member countries, who highlighted the work of their candidates. Thus, Panama nominated the work of the head of the Container Technical Inspection Unit (UNITEC) related to security issues.
“The Container Technical Inspection Unit plays a key role in customs management, as it controls container loads using non-intrusive inspection technology such as scanners and radiation monitoring portals,” said a statement from Panama Customs. It also stressed that this control contributes to national security, as it prevents drug trafficking and weapons of mass destruction; in addition to preventing the trafficking of money, counterfeit goods and smuggling.
COMALEP is made up of the customs offices of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela, as well as guest customs offices such as the United States and Canada and the World Customs Organization (WCO).
