Chilean customs seize 46 fake hair spray cans

A container with almost 50 thousand cans of counterfeit hair spray was seized by inspectors from the National Customs Service of Chile in the port of Iquique (north), which came from China and was destined for an importer in the Free Trade Zone.

The regional director of Customs, Dennys Beltrand, explained that within the missions aimed at preventing all types of smuggling, "The Risk Analysis Unit profiled a container that left from the Chinese port of Ningbo and said he was carrying combs and toys. Upon arrival, it was decided to carry out an inspection and the inspection confirmed the presence of contraband."

Specifically, upon opening the container they found 193 boxes, which contained 46.320 cans of hair spray of 147 ml each. Of that total, 45.840 were hair sprays imitating the North American brand Aqua Net, while the rest were spray cans of hair paint emulating the same brand.

Because the boxes were not declared, the crime of smuggling, according to article 168 of the Chilean Customs Ordinance. In addition to the simple examination and after a subsequent verification with the brand representatives in Chile, the goods also infringe intellectual and industrial property laws.

"We are faced with articles that They lack any certification and can endanger the health of the population, even more so if they are for direct application to the hair,” warned Beltrand.

In 2017, 2.511.064 units of products from this area were seized that arrived in the country as contraband and did not comply with the respective regulations, such as cosmetics, medicines for human use, cosmetics, toys, medical devices and food.
