Uruguay: Customs files criminal complaint against tour guide for explaining how to bribe customs officers

The National Customs Directorate (DNA) of Uruguay has filed a criminal complaint against the organizer of an excursion to Chuy (northwest, bordering Brazil) who appears in a video asking tourists for money to bribe customs officers at the border crossing.

According to release official, the DGA conducted an administrative investigation for “to quickly identify whether there were irregularities and possible officials who were involved in them.”

“At this stage, statements were taken from all officials who work at the Chuy border crossing, and even the person who appears in the video, who appeared with two lawyers, was given a statement,” the document states.

After the investigation, The DNA filed a criminal complaint against the "responsible" person before the Public Prosecutor of Chuy, Dr. Sandra Fleitas, and at the same time filed a police report with the Public Security Management System of the Rocha Police Headquarters.

On the other hand, the newspaper El País points out that they will be installed Security cameras at the Chuy reception area  and at other border posts with Brazil, such as those that exist on the border with Argentina.
