The Government of Guatemala is increasing its efforts to combat customs fraud and smuggling in 2021.
To this end, the authorities of the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT) and the Public Ministry (MP) expressed this Monday (18.01.2021/XNUMX/XNUMX) the results of the inter-institutional coordination, by communicating the consequences of the joint actions carried out to commercial establishments of the central region of the country between January 12 and 14, at a press conference.
“They were carried out 24 raids in different areas of the capital city and in the Municipality of Villa Nueva, achieving the seizure of contraband products such as beauty products, personal hygiene, cleaning products, liquor, medicines and groceries in general, mostly of Mexican origin," explained Superintendent Marco Livio Díaz.
Following the intervention, Customs Superintendent Werner Ovalle added: "During the In 2019, 143 raids were carried out and in In 2020, 142 were carried out, seizing merchandise worth Q1.4 million and Q2.9 million respectively, as part of the COINCON work plan."
These actions are part of the work plan of the Interinstitutional Council for the Prevention and Combat of Tax Fraud and Customs Smuggling (COINCON) as part of strengthening the battle against the importation of products that enter illegally..
The activity was chaired, on behalf of SAT, by Superintendent Marco Livio Díaz and Customs Superintendent Werner Ovalle and on behalf of the MP, by the Secretary against Corruption of the Public Ministry, Eduardo López, and the Prosecutor against Customs Fraud and Smuggling Crimes, Rossana Pérez Müller.
