The customs of Uruguay and Paraguay signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Technical Assistance in customs matters last Friday (3.5.2019) within the framework of the XL Meeting of the Multilateral Customs Convention of Latin America, Spain and Portugall (COMALEP) held in the city of Asunción.
Through this agreement, the organizations agree to establish mutual institutional cooperation, exchanging knowledge, experiences and good practices. They will also provide technical advice, training courses and carry out internships, with the aim of sharing knowledge and experiences in order to optimize the functions of control and facilitation of trade of both institutions.
The agreement was signed by the National Director of Customs of Uruguay, Enrique Canon, and the National Director of Customs of Paraguay, Julio Fernández Frutos, the statement said.
Customs cooperation
The signing of the Memorandum is part of the trade facilitation and streamlining policies implemented by both customs authorities and therefore there is great interest in bilateral cooperation.
According to the text, Paraguayan Customs is in the process of modernization and therefore wishes to benefit from the experience of Uruguayan Customs.
