Uruguay seizes nearly a ton and a half of cocaine in the port of Montevideo

In a joint operation between the National Naval Prefecture, the National Customs Directorate, the National Port Administration and the National Police, 1 was seized.474 kilos of cocaine in 1.400 bricks, with an estimated value for Europe of 120 million dollars, the authorities reported.

At the beginning of the press conference the Minister of Defense, Dr. Javier García, highlighted the joint work in the fight against drug trafficking. He explained: "The cargo was destined for the ship Grande Nigeria and a total of 32 bricks of cocaine were found inside 4 plastic containers and 1.400 metal tanks, which amounted to 1.474 kilos of the aforementioned drug."

In turn, the National Director of Customs, Jaime Borgiani, He stressed that “we are already dealing with contamination of a container or a load, but procedures for supplying a ship are being used in cases that require less declaration. But the message is that the team at this table is united, is working and we hope to continue successfully combating drug trafficking in our country, as we have done so far.”

The truck driver was charged by prosecutor Monica Ferrero with drug trafficking and was sent to preventive detention for 180 days, the Attorney General's Office reported. Uruguay is used by drug trafficking organizations as a stopover for cocaine coming from Andean countries and whose final destination is the European continent.
