The Government of Uruguay applied the “zero kilo” diet to purchases made in border areas on an exceptional, revocable and subject to modification basis, through the Resolution 23 / 2020.

Thus, the measure of the General Directorate of Customs, published on Monday (06.04.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX), provides that Special provisions for tourist benefits do not apply such as those for the entry of luggage and effects and vehicles of tourists.

The decision was made following the declaration of a health emergency and the suspension of tourist activities outside the country, which do not apply to special provisions on benefits for tourists such as the entry of luggage and the entry of tourist belongings and vehicles.

The customs agency reported that will not proceed to seize merchandise from the population when the amount consumed does not exceed five kilograms per person per week, and it is a varied assortment intended for the subsistence of the family unit.

Neither will seizures be carried out when the goods do not include restrictions or prohibitions according to current regulations. People residing in the same border area will be exempt from the measure by proving their address with a receipt for payment of services in their name.

"The general resolution is of an exceptional nature, revocable and subject to modifications. when the circumstances that motivate it so warrant," the customs institution clarified.
