Uruguay opens the market for Argentine chickens

The Government received confirmation from the Eastern Republic of Uruguay to export poultry meat to the neighboring country.

"This is a new step that makes us proud in the fulfillment of one of the central goals that we firmly assume, which is to continue positioning Argentine products on the shelves of the world," said the Minister of Agroindustry, Luis Miguel Etchevehere, pointing out that "the more than 100 markets that we have opened translate into work for the different localities of our country."

As a result of these efforts, the SThe Uruguayan Health Service recognized Argentina as a country free of Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease in October 2017, having pending the parties' agreement on the import certificate model that will cover commercial operations.

It is worth noting that Argentina declared itself a "Newcastle disease-free country" in 1997, a status that was communicated to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) in that same year. This status of a country free of pathogenic strains of the Newcastle disease virus has been officially recognised by, among others, China, the European Union, Canada, Chile and the United States.

In this context, Our country maintains a health status that favors its positioning in the foreign market, complying with the hygiene-sanitary, traceability and quality requirements of the most demanding markets, which has made it possible for poultry products to be exported to more than sixty destinations.

In 2017, our country exported 207.000 tons of poultry meat to the world for a value of 294 million dollars.
