Solá confirms the will to strengthen Mercosur

Argentine Foreign Minister Felipe Solá confirmed on Tuesday (05.05.2020) Argentina's willingness to strengthen regional integration and defend national production and work, in a meeting with the agro-industrial sector.

Speaking at a video conference on Mercosur and exports, Solá and representatives of thirty entities dedicated to this work, stressed the importance of strengthening the bloc and moving towards the consolidation of important markets. 

During the meeting, the foreign minister conveyed Argentina's position of moving towards an agenda of external negotiations, always taking into account the context of the pandemic and the situation of the local economy, the Foreign Ministry's statement said.

Likewise, He called for a strong Mercosur and for relaunching negotiations with key markets such as Canada, Colombia, Central America and Vietnam., among others.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed to the business sector its decision to continue working with the entities in the analysis of the economic impact of each negotiation.

The way will also be sought Optimize, with the participation of all sectors, the intra-Mercosur agenda for the harmonization of health and trade rules and for the purposes of improving the infrastructure for export, the note indicated.

The virtual meeting was attended by the Secretary of International Economic Relations, Jorge Neme, the Undersecretary of Negotiations of Mercosur, María del Carmen Squeff, and the Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guillermo Justo Chaves.

From the business sector, among other entities, CIARA, CONINAGRO, FAA, CRA, the Argentine Federation of the Milling Industry, the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, the Grain and Trade Exchanges of Bahía Blanca, Rosario, Entre Ríos and Santa Fe, the Chamber of Rice Industrialists and the National Meat Board were present at the teleconference.
