SENASA collaborates with Malbrán Institute in COVID-19 diagnosis

The National Service of Health and Agri-Food Quality (Senasa) announced this Friday (20.03.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX) that it has made its laboratory professionals in Martínez available to "Expand the diagnostic network that Argentina requires for the c"oronavirus".

The measure was agreed with the Ministry of Health of the Nation and seeks contribute to multiplying the places where COVID-19 diagnoses can be carried out to address the emergency that the current pandemic situation implies in our country.

Senasa professionals and technicians are highly trained in the use of molecular techniques, such as Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR), applied to the diagnosis of the Coronavirus COVID-19 disease.

The 16 agents Called to carry out the training and subsequent treatment of samples that enter the Laboratory with suspected coronavirus, they have been carrying out their usual tasks for years, in the diagnosis of other viral diseases, using different techniques in the area of ​​molecular biology in the Plant and Animal laboratories of Senasa.

It is recalled that the Senasa Laboratory is a national and international reference for the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in the diagnosis of diseases related to animal health; it is accredited under the IRAM/ISO/IEC 17025 Standard and has trained personnel, equipment and infrastructure necessary to collaborate and support the Malbrán Institute.

This is another way in which the Argentine State health agency participates in the actions carried out by the national government to confront this virus that affects human health and all productive sectors in the world.
