The Brazilian Senate approved this Wednesday (05.02.2020) unanimously a bill and is still for approval by the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, establishing norms and measures to control the coronavirus epidemic 2029-nCoV, with 11 suspected cases in the country, reported the Ministry of Health.
As a matter of urgency, the quarantine law will be applied to citizens who will be repatriated this weekend from the Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the disease.
The text, approved in record time by the legislature, provides for actions such as Isolation, quarantine and closure of ports, roads and airports for entry and exit from Brazil, in specific cases that endanger the health security of Brazilians.
Health Minister Luiz Henrique Mendetta said the project was an emergency and that will send a more complete proposal, with 85 articles, to establish a legal framework for health security early next week.
«It is a minimum text that provides the legal conditions so that we can safely go through the measures that must be taken in case we need to use them, the exceptional measures.", he pointed.
This new legislation will be applied starting Saturday when the 36 Brazilians living in Wuhan arrive and will be housed for 18 days at an Air Force base in the municipality of Anápolis, a city in the state of Goiás, 150 kilometers from Brasilia.
