Security Minister Patricia Bullrich presented this Friday (28.06.2019) the results of the operation that led to the seizure of more than 2500 weapons, thanks to the cooperation between Customs-AFIP, the Gendarmerie and other security agencies.
At an event held at the Centinela Building, the minister stressed that these weapons were ultimately destined to supply drug trafficking gangs in Brazil and highlighted the cooperation with the government of that country to dismantle this dangerous operation.
The Director General of Customs, Diego Dávila, described the result as “historic”, both from the raids carried out this week in various parts of the country, and those that led to this discovery, at the end of last year.
"It all started with an alert we received from the United States Department of Homeland Security which, with the intervention of the Economic Criminal Justice System, allowed us to carry out a controlled delivery last October.. Now this impressive arsenal of war has been discovered and we are very proud of the result of the operations, which is the product of joint work between different State agencies.", Dávila stressed.
Also present at the event were the Secretary of Security, Eugenio Burzaco, the heads of the National Gendarmerie, and representatives of the United States Department of Homeland Security.
According to the latest results, 1316 handguns, 1262 long guns and 165 explosives were seized in the raids carried out this week..
In addition, 23 people were arrested by order of the economic criminal judge Pablo Yadarola, who is in charge of the investigations.
The work of the Customs-AFIP focused in a first stage on ensuring the controlled delivery of the weapons that came last year from Miami to the Buenos Aires town of Campana. –with the replacement of original parts- and in the following months in the detection of the tax data of those responsible for this gang that has international ramifications.
