The first export of lamb to Japan was made official, with a shipment of 12 tons of carcasses that will depart for that destination from the port of Punta Arenas, in Chile.
The head of the agro-industrial portfolio, Luis Miguel Etchevehere, highlighted “the strength of joint work between the public and private sectors to open new markets, which allows our country to intelligently insert itself into the world. Japan is a strategic partner, and we have a lot to grow there”, he said while celebrating the first shipment of lamb to Japan in the national history that the Faimali Refrigerator will make.
The Faimali slaughterhouse, located in the province of Santa Cruz, slaughters 1.300 tons of lamb a year, and allocates 60% of its production to export. (Spain, Greece, Israel, Portugal, France and Brazil, among others), while 40% sells it in the domestic market.
The busiest season is between December and May, which is the time of year when lamb is slaughtered, when 150 people work in the 11.000 square meter plant, where Several programs are implemented to ensure full control and maximum safety of products.: SSOP (Standardized Sanitation Operating Procedures), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and the HACCP plan (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points System).
