The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries reported this week that "exports of beef chilled and frozen during 2019 until September reached US$ 2.000 billion for the first time.” 

In a statement, the portfolio explained that “The accumulated volume is 572.115 tons of cattle. with bone for the first 9 months of this year, a result that also exceeds that recorded in 2018. In September, 80.613 tons of bone-in carcass equivalent were exported, at an average value of US$ 3.699 per ton, a figure slightly higher in the inter-monthly comparison.”

“As for the composition of exports, 26% were chilled cuts destined mainly for the European Union and Chile, while frozen meat, the main export product, 88% of shipments were destined for China with an improvement in the average price per ton of 8,6%,” the official report added. 

According to the authorities, for this year, The Chinese market presents the challenge of expanding the product basket since sales of frozen cuts with bone and chilled cuts have been added.The former now total 5.300 tons at an average value of US$3.200 per ton, and the latter, 60 tons at US$12.000, as a result of negotiations carried out with the support and commitment of the private sector.

According to the latest report from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Argentina would occupy 5th place in the ranking of exporters this year, led by Brazil, with a 6% share internationally.
