During this Friday (23.08.2019/XNUMX/XNUMX) the Embassy of Uruguay and the Consulate General of Uruguay in Argentina held the celebration of 194th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, which took place on August 25, 1825 The event was attended by government authorities, politicians, representatives of institutions, Uruguayan and Argentine businessmen. Honor was paid and recognition was given to the first Uruguayan Foreign Minister after the return to democracy, Cr. Enrique V. Iglesias; and to the Uruguayan actress and writer based in Buenos Aires, Gabriela Acher.
The emotional day was led by the Ambassador of Uruguay, Héctor Lescano Fraschini, along with the entire body of the Uruguayan Diplomatic Mission in Argentina.
During the morning the following were carried out: Floral offerings in Plaza San Martin and in the Plaza República Oriental del Uruguay, where the monument to the hero General José Gervasio Artigas is located.
Both events were accompanied by the 1st Blandengues de Artigas Cavalry Regiment of the Uruguayan Army, who travelled specially and were accompanied by members of the 1st Artillery Regiment "Brigadier General Tomás de Iriarte" and the Ituzaingó Military Band of Argentina.
Also Students and teachers from schools attended the event in Plaza Uruguay Eastern Republic of Uruguay; José Pedro Varela and José Enrique Rodó from the City of Buenos Aires.

Ambassador Lescano, together with the Consul General of Uruguay in Buenos Aires, Lilian Alfaro, awarded a distinction to the Uruguayan actress and writer Gabriela Acher, who has lived in Buenos Aires since the 1960s. Cr. Enrique V. Iglesias
Enrique Iglesias was born in Asturias, Spain, and is a naturalized Uruguayan citizen. A graduate in Economics and Administration, he was elected the first President of the Central Bank of Uruguay. He has also been Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC); Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on New and Renewable Energy Sources; Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay and President of the Ministerial Meeting that launched the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), in Punta del Este, Uruguay, and the subsequent creation of the World Trade Organization. Between 1988 and 2005 he was President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and from 2005 to 2014, Iglesias served as the first Ibero-American Secretary General. In 2013, United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan appointed Mr. Iglesias as a member of the High Level Group for the Alliance of Civilizations. Enrique Iglesias has been a professor of Economic Development and Director of the Institute of Economics at the University of the Republic of Uruguay. He has written numerous articles, essays and books on Latin American and Uruguayan economics, capital markets, external financing and multilateralism. He has been awarded honorary doctorates by ten universities in America and Europe; he has also received numerous international distinctions and recognitions, including the Prince of Asturias Award. He currently chairs the Astur Foundation, directs the Chair of Latin America at the Pontifical University of Comillas-ICADE, chairs the Ibero-American Council for Productivity and Competitiveness and is director of the journal Pensamiento Iberoamericano.
Gabriela Acher
Gabriela Acher is a Uruguayan actress and writer who has lived in Buenos Aires since the 1960s. Born in Montevideo, she began her professional career in Uruguayan television on the comedy show “Telecataplú” alongside Berugo Carámbula, Henny Trayles, Ricardo Espalter, Enrique Almada, Raimundo Soto, Andrés Redondo and Julio Frade, among others. The show was transferred to Argentine television, becoming a huge success and leading to sequels such as “Jaujarana”, “Hupumorpo” and “Comicolor”. Once settled in Buenos Aires, Acher stood out on television, film and theatre alongside great figures of Argentine entertainment such as Tato Bores and Antonio Gasalla. She was part of the casts of the films “Eterna sonrisa de New Jersey”; “Sol de otoño”; “Cohen vs. Rosi”; “Esperando al Mesías”; and “Mi primera boda entre otras”. Winner of the Martín Fierro and Estrella de Mar awards for her work in television and theatre, respectively, as well as the Elvira Rawson for her fight for equality between women and men; as a writer, she is the author of books with a marked feminine voice: “El príncipe azul destiné” (1992); La guerra de los sexos (1998); “El amor en los tiempos del huesos” (2001); “Si soy tan inteligentes, qué me enamoro como una imbécil?” (2003); “Algo sobre mi madre (todo siendo mucho)” (2007) and “Qué hace una chica como yo en una Edad como este?” (2016).
