The National Institute of Viticulture (INV) recognizes and determines the registration and protection of the requested area under the name of San Luis, as a geographical indication of Argentina delimited according to the administrative limits corresponding to the province of the same name.
In Resolution 10 / 2019, published this Thursday (4.4.2019) in the Official Gazette, indicates that such area is made up of terroirs with distinctive qualities and is suitable for the production of quality wines. In this line, the organization proceeds to "recognize, protect and register this requested area under the name of San Luis, as a Geographical Indication of the Argentine Republic, delimited according to the administrative limits corresponding to the Province of the same name, according to the following map that appears in the Annex of the regulations.
What is a geographical indication?
A geographical indication is a sign used for products that have a specific geographical origin and whose qualities, reputation and characteristics are essentially due to their place of origin. Typically, the geographical indication consists of the name of the place of origin of the products. A typical example is agricultural products that have qualities derived from their place of production and are subject to specific geographical factors, such as climate and terrain.
