Rosenkrantz: «A judicial career with transparent appointments prevents corruption and promotes independence»

-

The President of the Supreme Court of Justice, Carlos Rosenkrantz, stated that a judicial career with a transparent allocation of resources prevents corruption and promotes the independence of the other branches of the State and of the powerful," while participating this Wednesday (7.11.2018) in the opening of the First Round of Workshops of the XX edition of the Ibero-American Judicial Summit.

Independence of the Judiciary

"The independence of the Judiciary that we want to achieve is not limited to being independent of others."Being an independent and impartial judge requires another, more difficult independence. It demands independence from our own ideological and political convictions," said Rosenkrantz.

The president of Argentina's highest court added that judicial independence, one of the axes around which the magistrates of the summit will debate in the workshops, requires judges to be "motivated solely by the ambition to respect the rules adopted democratically".

For his part, the president of the Council of the Judiciary, Miguel Piedecasas, said in reference to judicial independence that "it is difficult" to sustain it "without absolute financial economic autonomy."

Piedecasas said that all the countries participating in the Summit have "similar problems" and, in this context, he stressed the importance of "sharing experiences, reflecting and proposing better alternatives."

He also stressed that it is essential for judicial independence to achieve "the "the need for balanced, objective and transparent selection processes", and "procedures for judging the conduct and performance of judges."

Digital justice and promoter of social peace

The head of the Judiciary spoke of progress towards "digital justice" to ensure the "transparency" and "speed" of the proceedings, and predicted that "in the next two years" in Argentina we will be talking about "a totally digital Justice."

"It is time for access to public information and citizen participation," he said, recalling that The motto of this summit is "supporting Justice as a promoter of social peace".

The statements by Rosenkrantz and Piedecasas were made during the inauguration of the First Round of Workshops of the 20th edition of the Ibero-American Judicial Summit, which began on Wednesday and will continue until Friday in the city of Buenos Aires, with workshops that will be held alternately at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Palace of Justice.

With the focus on “The sustainability of social peace: Challenges for the Administration of Justice in Latin America in the face of the demands of the new millennium,” the delegates of the countries that make up the summit will work divided into four groups to then present their conclusions.
