Enrique Canon, the national director of Customs of Uruguay, resigns

Enrique Canon, the national director of Customs, resigned this Friday (02.08.2019), the Ministry of Economy (MEF) indicated through a release.

“Today, the National Director of Customs, Accountant Enrique Canon, offered his resignation, which was accepted. Starting next Monday, Accountant Jaime Borgiani will serve as interim director.”, the brief statement says.

Even today the real reasons are unknown of the sudden resignation.

Born in Montevideo in December 1952, Canon was appointed National Director of Customs on March 10, 2010, during the Government of José Mujica (2010-2015), and renewed in his position on March 3, 2015, with the beginning of the second term of Tabaré Vázquez (2015-2020).

From April 2012 to June 2014, he held the Regional Vice Presidency of the World Customs Organization (WCO) for the Americas and the Caribbean.

In addition, since July 8, 2017, he held the position of president of the Council of the World Customs Organization (WCO), the supreme body of the same, which brings together the customs administrations of 182 countries, according to the official website of the National Customs Directorate.
